SPECULATIONS-SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY BOOK GROUP
As the literature of ideas and imagination science fiction and fantasy simply demands to be discussed. We read books from all over the genre map: from hard Science Fiction to Young Adult Fantasy; from geniune Horror to the horrifically disgusting New Weird; from Literary Fiction with hints of Magical Realism or Science Fiction to Literary Fiction bursting with fantastical creatures; from swashbuckling swordplay to zeppelin sky chases and steam-powered world wars. We read it all, and everything in between.

Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. 1984 has come and gone, but George Orwell's prophetic, nightmare vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is timelier than ever. 1984 is still the great modern classic "negative Utopia" - a startling original and haunting novel that creates an imaginary world that is completely convincing from the first sentence to the last four words. No one can deny this novel's power, its hold on the imagination of whole generations, or the power of its admonitions - a power that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.
