In writing her book on the experience of being in museums, Museum Legs: Fatigue and Hope in the Face of Art (Hol Art Books), Amy Whitaker brings unusually varied perspective. She's received an MBA at Yale, an MFA in painting from London's Slade School of Art, has worked at the Guggenheim, MOMA, the Tate, for a well-known artist, and a major hedge fund. All of this goes into her ruminative work on what museums give us, what we give them, what might be given better. "Whitaker is the perfect docent - wise, wry, and engaging ..." - Daniel Gilbert. "Amy Whitaker's sparkling meditations on the museum are both delightful and pressing. She explains how we might re-attain our sense of wonder, and how museums might rediscover their essence: relating to patrons without being patronizing, and sustaining themselves without selling out." - Jonathan Zittrain.
