Pete Seeger turned ninety years-old this year, and among the many events celebrating his music and influence was the publication of historian Allan M. Winkler's book, To Everything There is a Season: Pete Seeger and the Power of Song (Oxford University Press). This evening, Allan Winkler will discuss the critical role folk music (and Pete Seeger, in particular) played in protest movements in the U.S. in the twentieth-century. Since no event in celebration of Pete Seeger is complete without music, Allan Winkler will have guitar in hand, and hope those here will join in the singing. "Allan Winkler's story is more than the tale of one man's journey. It's the story of a nation and a world moving forward, almost catching up to one guy with a banjo." - Arlo Guthrie. Included in the book is a CD, which features Pete Seeger singing, and a selection of over forty photographs.
