Start: 7:30 pm
Co-presented with the TOWN HALL CENTER FOR CIVIC LIFE. Georgetown University professor John Esposito, also founding director of the Prince Alwaleed bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, is the author/editor of numerous authoritative works on Islam. These include Unholy War, The Oxford Encyclopedia of Modern Islam, The Oxford History of Islam, and more. They now also include his newest, The Future of Islam (Oxford University Press). "This is an important book ... One comes away from this book convinced that the future of Islam does not depend simply on the effectiveness of a few Muslim reformers but that the United States and Europe also have a major role to play. If short-sighted Western policies have helped to create the current impasse, they will, if not corrected, continue to have a negative effect upon the region ... In writing this book, which will help many Western readers to achieve a more balanced, informed and nuanced appreciation of the Muslim world, Professor Esposito has made a major contribution." - Karen Armstrong, from the Foreword. $5 tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m., or in advance via www.brownpapertickets.com (or 1-800-838-3006). Town Hall Seattle is at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca). Preferred seating for Town Hall members.
