As has been the case for years, the evening before the curtain rises on a new Seattle Opera production—in this instance Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore—Elliott Bay has played host to an "aspects of the opera" discussion featuring Seattle Opera General Director Speight Jenkins. This does happen tonight—and should be as engaging and stimulating as always. But the evening is markedly different as it is the first one presented here after the untimely passing of Seattle Opera Education Director Perry Lorenzo on December 19. It was Perry Lorenzo who first came to us—and many other places in the community—to see about bringing opera, and opera awareness/partisanship/devotion wherever it might find harbor.
