Artisanal breads, flatbreads, sweets, savories, and traditional Italian breads are all mainstays of Seattle's Macrina Bakery, founded by Leslie Mackie in 1993. She'll bring some samples to taste, sign books, and answer questions today as we celebrate her second Macrina cookbook, the recently published More from Macrina: New Favorites from Seattle's Popular Neighborhood Bakery (Sasquatch Books). If you are looking for new breads and treats to try for the holidays as gifts or as part of your holiday table, stop by today.
Start: 6:30 pm
Co-presented with REACT THEATRE. We continue our Thirteenth Annual Staged Play Reading Series with a reading of ReAct's sequel to Uncle Hideki, Jean Davies Okimoto's charming family comedy, Uncle Hideki & The Empty Nest. Continuing the celebration of the 80th birthday of local community activist Herb Tsuchiya—co-founder of the Seattle Walk for Rice and Kin On Health Care Center—this play starring Tsuchiya picks up 10 years later in the lives of the Suyama clan. Helen has remarried and sold the family home on Beacon Hill. Rodney and Suzanne have both grown up and moved out, and with his boyfriend Mark, Rodney has even come out when their cantankerous Uncle Hideki announces another unforgettable surprise visit. Please join us! Suggested donation ($5) at the door. Reservations encouraged. For more information, please see An encore of this reading will also take place at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center on November 19th at 8 p.m.
