As the holidays approach, we can't think of a better time to slow down, take time out, and create a little sacred space. Writing teachers (and themselves fine writers) Brenda Miller and Holly J. Hughes present a mini-workshop based on their own yearlong conversations about contemplation and writing, which also produced a new book, The Pen and the Bell (Skinner House Press). Writers of all types and experience levels interested in learning more about contemplative writing practices are welcome to attend this free presentation. For more information, please also see www.penandbell.com.
Start: 6:00 pm
This series continues with the debut production of Stephen Oles' Hercules and the Evil Queen. When the beautiful, ruthless Regina kills her uncle Nero and declares herself empress, the goddess Juno sends Hercules and his plucky sidekick Gyno to vanquish the usurper and find the kidnapped true heir to the throne. This fast-paced comedy is based on the 1960s Hercules B-movies that starred Steve Reeves and other bodybuilders. Get ready for muscle, mayhem, mistaken identities, and big beehive hairdos. (Not recommended for children.) Free admission. For more information, please see www.playwrightscollective.org.
