In Annie Hartnett’s delightful debut novel, Rabbit Cake (Tin House Books), a young girl living in Freedom, Alabama, tries to make sense of her mother’s death by creating a grieving chart to track her progress, volunteering at a zoo and by breaking a world record by baking 1,000 rabbit cakes with her late mother’s pan.  What could go wrong? Annie Hartnett, a former bookseller, was 2013-2014 Writer-in-Residence for the Associates of the Boston Public Library. She currently teaches classes on the novel and the short story at Boston’s Grub Street.
