C0-presented by SHORT RUN and the GRAPHIC MEDICINE CONFERENCE.
MK Czerwiec, artist-in-residence at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and co-curator at GraphicMedicine.org, (a podcast and website exploring the role that comics can play in the study and delivery of health care), travels to Seattle this week to participate in this weekend’s Graphic Medicine Conference. Her book, Taking Turns: Stories from HIV/AIDS Care Unit 371 (Penn State University Press), is the story of daily life at her first job in nursing, as a caregiver of people with HIV/AIDS during the 1990s.
“MK Czerwiec’s tales of her nursing work chart a remarkable episode in the history of medicine.” Alison Bechdel.
MK Czerwiec is also the author of Graphic Medicine Manifesto. More about the Graphic Medicine Conference, some of which is free and open to the public (June 15-17 at Seattle Public Library) at graphicmedicine.org.
