Rachel Rose & Elee Kraljii Gardiner

We welcome Vancouver, BC poet laureate Rachel Rose back to Elliott Bay tonight to speak about a new (prose) book, The Dog Lover Unit: Lessons in Courage from the World's K9 Cops (St. Martins), in which she introduces readers to police dogs and their handlers in the United States, Canada, Britain, and France (where their group's official name translates as "the dog lover unit").

"What do you get when a poet does ride-alongs with police K-9 units in four different countries? You get a unique, insightful, and well-written book like this. It is a must read for anyone interested in these dedicated police officers and their valiant canine partners." —Stanley Coren.

She’ll appear in conversation with poet Elee Kraljii Gardiner, author of Serpentine Loop (Anvil Press), which was shortlisted for the Raymond Souster Award. She is the co-editor with John Asfour of V6A: Writing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (Arsenal Pulp Press), which was shortlisted for the 2012 City of Vancouver Book Award. And yes, poetry is expected to be part of tonight’s program. Please join us.
