He is also the author of four books, most recently Windy City: A Novel of Politics (Random House)—set in Chicago's 48th Ward. He is also the author of Home and Away: A Memoir of a Fan, Jackie Robinson and the Integration of Baseball, and the novel, Pretty Birds.
