MOLLY TENENBAUM & KATE GRAY Thursday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Two fine Northwest poetsMolly Tenenbaum who teaches and plays string band music and writes poems here in Seattleand Kate Gray, who teaches and lives in Portlandjoin presences for this evening's reading. For Ms. Tenenbaum, it is a beautiful new collection of poems, Now (Bear Star, cover art by Seattle artist Ellen Ziegler), to be read from. "Tenenbaum's new poems in Now are odes to living in the present, but they're far from simple carpe diems. The speaker's 'new life' is layered with memory and hope, and though the poems celebrate the immediacy of 'mustard seeds jumping in ginger-oil,' even the most vivid details resonate with what was ... Intelligent, playful, musical, these poems transform pain, sadness, and all the richness of the world into a made life, a work of art." - Sharon Bryan. Kate Gray is the author of two chapbooks, 2006's Bone Knowing receiving the Gertrude Prize. She is here with a first full-length collection, Another Sunset We Survive (from Friday Harbor's Cedar House Press).
