STEPHEN J. HARTNETT Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m.
This afternoon's presentation by University of Illinois professor Stephen Hartnett is the latest of an incidentally ongoing series of Sunday afternoon talks by scholars and authors on political topics. Dr. Hartnett's talk on his book, Globalization and Empire: The U.S. Invasion of Iraq, Free Markets, and the Twilight of Democracy (University of Alabama) both includes his analysis of the Iraq War as policy and blueprint for the Bush administration's efforts at empire-building, but also the ways in which anti-war and anti-corporate globalization movements have responded. "Required reading for anybody concerned about the collateral damage done to the American republic by the Bush Administration's imbecile dream of empire. An illuminating and essential book." - Lewis H. Lapham, Harper's Magazine.
