Sister HELEN PREJEAN Monday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Avenue
Co-presented with SEATTLE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH & others as part of the SEATTLE SPIRITUAL SYNTHESIS series. Sister Helen Prejean, activist against the death penalty and celebrated author of Dead Man Walking, returns to Seattle to tell stories of two men who were executed for crimes which she and others maintain they didn’t commit. Sr. Helen provides the evidence and a careful reconstruction of the men’s legal cases (and her relationships with these men and their families) in her second book, The Death of Innocents: An Eyewitness Account of Wrongful Executions (Random House). "Prejean’s tale involves a tragic, but not atypical, confluence of aggressive prosecutors (such as those in Louisiana), who display a ‘Big Prick’ award (featuring the state bird clutching in its talons a hypodermic needle used in lethal injections in its talons) and inept, ill-trained and apathetic defense attorneys. This damning critique should make even supporters of capital punishment pause..." - Publishers Weekly. Free, no tickets required. Seattle First Baptist is located at 1111 Harvard Avenue, at the intersection of Harvard, Seneca, and Union. Please call Elliott Bay at (206) 624-6600 for more information.
