JEFFREY KARL OCHSNER Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m. at Microsoft Auditorium, Seattle Public Central Library
Co-presented with THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY and the UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON PRESS. Lionel Pries, one of the University of Washington's most influential teachers of architecture and design, helped shape the vision of Victor Steinbrueck, Fred Bassetti, Minoru Yamasaki, and many, many others, and yet left the University in 1958 in disgrace, his career ruined, when his homosexuality became known. Today, UW architecture professor and author Jeffrey Ochsner speaks about the legacy of this Northwest master, whose life and work are celebrated in the new book, Lionel H. Pries, Architect, Artist, Educator: From Arts and Crafts to Modern Architecture (University of Washington). Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is located at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison and Spring). Limited parking in the Central Library garage will be available for a special $5 event rate.
