RUSSELL BANKS
Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Microsoft Auditorium, Seattle Public Central Library, 1000 Fourth Avenue

Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. One of this country's most esteemed authors—and one particularly cherished by Seattle readers, as the first "Seattle Reads" author a decade ago, Russell Banks makes this most welcome return to Seattle. While he has had a new novel, The Reserve (HarperCollins), released since his last visit, it is for his first work of nonfiction, Dreaming Up in America (Seven Stories), that he is here tonight. "Two years ago, novelist Banks was interviewed by French television for a documentary about American history. His testimony so impressed Banks's French publisher that he made a book out of his remarks ... Now Banks's words have returned stateside." -Publishers Weekly. "Russell Banks is not only one of our great novelists but also a courageous and visionary citizen ... His first nonfiction book is a gem." - Cornel West. In addition to his considerable body of work, Russell Banks is the founding president of Cities of Refuge North America. Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis (no tickets). The Seattle Public Central Library is located at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Special $5 parking coupons for use in the Central Library garage are available on a limited basis for those attending the reading. For more information, please see www.spl.org, or call (206) 386-4636, or Elliott Bay at (206) 624-6600.
