THOMAS J. CAMPANELLA Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Stimson Auditorium, Seattle Asian Art Museum, Volunteer Park
Presented by the SEATTLE ASIAN ART MUSEUM as part of its "Pivotal Perspectives on Art and Culture" series. Thomas J. Campanella, presently associate professor of urban planning at the University of North Carolina, and a past professor at Nanjing University, visits the Seattle Asian Art Museum to discuss ground covered in his captivating new book, The Concrete Dragon: China's Urban Revolution and What It Means for the World (Princeton Architectural Press). "Thomas J. Campanella's The Concrete Dragon is a fascinating and timely book that sets the scene for any further discussion of China's explosive urban growth across the last twenty years. The complete evisceration of immense areas of urban housing and farmland is discussed in rich and chilling detail; and so are the tower blocks, giant malls, highway systems, McMansions, theme parks, and pastiches of virtually every known global architectural style that have taken their place." - Jonathan D. Spence. Free admission with museum entry. Advance registration is preferred by way of boxoffice@seattleartmuseum.org or (206) 654-3121. Please see www.seattleartmuseum.org for more information. The Seattle Asian Art Museum is located in Volunteer Park.
