ERIC ALTERMAN Friday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Avenue
Co-presented with the TOWN HALL CENTER FOR CIVIC LIFE. Making this welcome return to Seattle, and Town Hall, is Eric Alterman. A professor of journalism at Brooklyn College and the Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, media columnist for The Nation, a blogger for Media Matters for America, and more, he is here with his newest book, Why We're Liberals: A Political Handbook for Post-Bush America (Viking). This book gives underpinning for conversations and debates likely to be waged over this yearand beyond. Part of it is a reclamation of the word 'liberal' from its media- and other-assigned place as a word not fit for pronouncement in polite company. The history of liberalism, especially in public/political life, and some prescribing for how it can again ascend to the front and center of things is laid out in this engaging book. "A longtime cheerleader for progressive causes makes an enthusiastic ... case that liberalism is poised to rise again." - Kirkus Reviews. $5 admission at the door (no tickets), with preferred seating for Town Hall members. Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue (entry on Seneca). For more information, please see www.townhallseattle.org or call (206) 652-4255.
