Co-presented with the SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. Mavis Hara, a Hawai'ian of Japanese descent, is a renowned poet and fiction writer who work has appeared in the Bamboo Ridge literary journal for over 25 years. An Offering of Rice (Bamboo Ridge Press), her first collection of short stories, takes readers into the lives of plantation workers, contemporary cancer survivors, and motherhood in stories that span the generations. "Mavis Hara's writing is elegant and spare, carrying a simple grace." - Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Free admission (no tickets).
