DANA E. WHITAKER
Sunday, May 6 at 4:30 p.m.

The role of micro-lending and microfinance in providing access to self-employment, secure payments, and savings for education, health care, debt relief, and more, for the world's poorest people is documented through the stories and photographs of Dana Whitaker in her book, Transforming Lives $40 at a Time: Women + Microfinance: Upending the Status Quo (Opening Eyes). Ms. Whitaker, a member of Women Advancing Microfinance, will here share slides and stories of the effects of the microfinance programs in thirteen countries, including Vietnam, India, Guatemala, and the U.S. (where 12% of the population now lives below the poverty line). "The next best thing to meeting these women is to read Dana Whitaker's book. It inspires and informs, appealing to the heart and mind as it opens up both." - Alex Counts, Grameen Foundation.
