JANET ORE Saturday, November 18 at 5 p.m.
The rich history of the much-loved bungalow houses still sheltering families and businesses in many Seattle neighborhoods has been the subject of popular talks and tours by Historic Seattle and other local groups, a wildly popular annual Bungalow Fair, and now, Janet Ore's book, The Seattle Bungalow: People and Houses, 1900 - 1940 (University of Washington). Ms. Ore visits today with an illustrated talk about this once ubiquitous and still popular type of vernacular architecture. "Janet Ore's subjectthe origins, marketing, development, and legacy of working-class housing in Seattleoffers an opportunity not only to explore architectural history but to characterize the economic, aesthetic, moral, and social dimensions of such housing."- Dennis Anderson.
