AMRIT SINGH Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Avenue
Co-presented with the TOWN HALL CENTER FOR CIVIC LIFE and the AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION. Along with Jameel Jaffer, Amrit Singh, a staff attorney at the Immigrant Rights' Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, is author of a very timely, necessary new book, Administration of Torture: A Documentary Record from Washington to Abu Ghraib and Beyond (Columbia University). "Administration of Torture is a powerful account of the devastating effects of deviating from longstanding legal prohibitions on the mistreatment of prisoners. Through government documents, Jameel Jaffer and Amrit Singh bring to light the grim reality of the torture and abuse of prisoners held in U.S. custody abroad. This book will serve as a historic reminder of the dangers of curtailing human rights protections in the name of national security." - Mary Robinson. "In gathering these truly telling documents Jaffer and Singh have distilled the essence of an evil that has shamed America. Exposing it can only help remove a terrible national stain." – John W. Dean. $5 admission at the door (no advance tickets), with preferred seating for Town Hall members. Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue (entry downstairs on Seneca). For more information on this evening, please see www.townhallseattle.org, or call (206) 652-4255.
