MATTHEW KANGAS Monday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Seattle art critic and curator Matthew Kangas has been busy of late. Besides curating and writing catalogue essays for a number of exhibits hereabouts, he has been having major books published. His recent book, Epicenter: Essays on North American Art, is now succeeded by a new volume, Craft and Concept: The Rematerialization of the Art Object (Midmarch Arts Press). "Matthew Kangas brings his highly developed critical thinking and writing skills to capture the essence of the debate as to whether those working in craft media are artists or not. Covering all crafts media with a special emphasis on ceramics, Kangas's expertise immeasurably repairs the dearth of knowledge with these essays and sets a high standard of scholarship." - Michael W. Monroe, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Bellevue Art Museum.
