TED RALL Thursday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
A welcome Elliott Bay return is made tonight by nationally syndicated cartoonist and journalist Ted Rall. Twice a winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, he is here with a new book on a subject that has been an abiding concern, Central Asia. Silk Road to Ruin: Is Central Asia the New Middle East? (NBM) illustrates graphically (in more ways than one) what life and politics are like even without designs being made on the region by outside powersthen adds the prospect of such intrusions and where the world might go from there. This is an excellent follow-up to his earlier book, To Afghanistan and Back: A Graphic Travelogue. "If truth be told, every part of our conflicted world needs an American interpreter of events and places such as Ted Rall. There should be a Ted Rall of the Middle East and a Ted Rall of Latin Americaso that Americans and the rest of us can better understand the world we live in and try and make a better place." - Ahmed Rashid.
