Shalom Auslander's Seattle appearance—as part of last year's Nextbook series—was one of the most talked-about, controversial, and eye-opening of all last year. Excerpts of his memoir about growing up in an ultra-Orthodox community, and leaving the fold, appeared in The New Yorker and Public Radio International's This American Life, and finally in the form of Foreskin's Lament (Riverhead). This New York Times 'notable book' is now in paperback.
