JENNIFER BAUMGARDNER & AMY RICHARDS Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m.
We're pleased to welcome Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, two young feminist writers (and frequent collaborators) back to Seattle this evening to discuss different aspects of the fight for reproductive freedoman especially timely topic this election year. Jennifer Baumgardner, producer/creator of the award-winning film I Had an Abortion, is here with her new book, Abortion and Life (Akashic), which features a short history of abortion legislation, testimonials by women who have had abortions, and a discussion of the issue. Amy Richards takes on feminism's relationship to motherhood in Opting In: Having a Child Without Losing Yourself (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). This draws from interviews, historical analysis, and her own personal experiences in trying to untangle motherhood from what she describes as the "mommy industrial complex." The authors are also co-authors of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future and Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism.
