SARAH VOWELL Monday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Avenue
A most welcome Seattle return is made this evening by the one and only Sarah Vowell. Coming here from her present home in New York, she has a longer history with Elliott Bay than some of us had realized; as a young family member she had made excursions over from her Montana home and found her way into Elliott Bay. She knew our children's section castle well. The ensuing years (not that many) have brought forth her popular pieces on NPR's This American Life, publication in numerous major magazines (from GQ to McSweeney's), and a number of acclaimed books: Assassination Vacation, The Partly Cloudy Patriot, Take the Cannoli, and Radio On. Tonight, it's her worthy newest, The Wordy Shipmates (Riverhead). "Essayist and public radio regular Vowell rvists America's Puritan roots in this witty exploration of the ways in which our country's present predicaments are inextricably tied to its past ... Vowell traces the 1630 journey of several key English colonists and members of the Massachusetts Bay Colony ... Gracefully interspersing her history lesson with personal anecdotes, Vowell offers reflections that are both amusing (colonial history lessons via The Brady Bunch) and tender (watching New Yorkers patiently waiting in line to donate blood after 9/11).” - Publishers Weekly. Tickets for Sarah Vowell are free with the prepaid reservation of The Wordy Shipmates (1 ticket per book purchased) at the Elliott Bay Book Company. You may also purchase individual tickets for $5 each through www.brownpapertickets.com (and 1-800-838-3006) or at Elliott Bay ) starting September 20. Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca). For more information on this evening, please call (206) 624-6600.
