CHRIS FINAN Thursday, September 27 at 7 p.m. at Microsoft Auditorium, Seattle Public Central Library, 1000 Fourth Avenue
Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY and the ACLU OF WASHINGTON. Chris Finan, president of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression and author of From the Palmer Raids to the Patriot Act: A History of the Fight for Free Speech in America (Beacon), makes a special "Banned Books Week" presentation here at the Central Library this evening. " ... An insightful history of the long struggle for free speech in America. The book is especially apropos for our own age, when, confronted by the Patriot Act, otherwise mild-mannered librarians have morphed into tenacious guardians of civil liberty, refusing to open client records to the FBI." - Publishers Weekly. Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is located at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Parking in the Central Library garage will be available for a $5 special event rate. For more information, please see www.spl.org or call (206) 386-4636.
