ELLIOTT BAY BOOK GROUP Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Each month, the Elliott Bay Book Club reads and discusses the best in contemporary fiction with the occasional classic thrown in for good measure. Virgin Soil by Ivan Turgenev is a sympathetic account of the Russian revolutionaries of the 1860's and 1870's. It was Turgenev's last and longest full-length novel. Joseph Conrad said of Turgenev, "...All his creations, fortunate and unfortunate, oppressed and oppressors, are human beings, not strange beasts in a menagerie or damned souls knocking themselves out in the stuffy darkness of mystical contradictions. They are human beings, fit to live, fit to suffer, fit to struggle, fit to win, fit to lose, in the endless and inspiring game of pursuing from day to day the ever-receding future." Please join us.
