Ryan
For the past year, Ryan treasured those rare English books that crossed his meandering path. A day after hiking to Machu Picchu, he began reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Cusco, Peru. He was hooked and in Bolivia, traded The Goblet of Fire and ten bucks for The Order of the Phoenix at the "5th best bar in La Paz." Ryan completed reading The Deathly Hallows on a ferry sailing along the fjords of Southern Chile.
When reading in a fixed place, he enjoys fiction and graphic novels.
Ryan is glad to return to a first-class bookstore.
Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold
What seperates Carter Beats the Devil from other good books, is the magic Gold writes
with.
He urges the reader to wonder and the results are simply amazing.
Charles Carter is a young man and struggling Vaudeville magician. He is the
quickening pulse of this lively story.
A triumph.
You Are Here by Katherine Harmon
As I wander through this fascinating book, lost among color and details, I
begin to understand what a voyage a single book can be.
I can find myself in a specific map, one that tugs at my wondering mind.
I almost always explore the maps on pages 90, 122 and 138.
On page 168, you'll find a map from a long-gone downtown seattle diner.
100 Bullets: First Shot, Last Call by Brian Azzarello
If it helps, think of 100 Bullets as Sin City on a national level,
except with smarter dialogue and smaller details.
Brian Azzarello writes of a world one twisted set of stairs beneath our own.
100 Bullets is essential noir in graphic novel form.
