Everyone is welcome to discuss the joys and pleasures of books in meetings led by our informed and spirited booksellers at Elliott Bay's Book Clubs. At present, Elliott Bay offers four book groups that meet monthly and a fifth special events group...
...The Elliott Bay Book Group, which reads and discusses the best in contemporary fiction and nonfiction, with the occasional classic or underground discovery thrown in for good measure.
...Speculations, the science fiction and fantasy book group, bringing a much-needed discourse to the myriad worlds of sci-fi and fantasy.
...Global Issues and Ethics, intended as an ongoing discussion of the many excellent books that address society's problems and proffer some possible solutions.
...Stages, the Drama book group, reads and discusses new and classic plays and theater books from around the world.
...and our special occassion Bookseller Spotlight Book Group, designed for the exploration of a melange of different genres and a variety of lively topics...from controversial biographies to travel essays, thought-provoking non-fiction to gay and lesbian literature, young adult novels and more!
All are welcome, no registration required. Simply arrive with a thirst for intelligent discussion and an open mind. All dates and featured books are listed in our readings and book group fliers, available throughout the store.
Elliott Bay Book Club Presentations
Sometimes book clubs need a little help in picking their next month's, three month's, or half-year's selections. What could possibly be a better remedy to this vexing problem than having a well-versed Elliott Bay Staff Member walk your book club through many available options, chosen for your book club's interests?
Our book club presentations usually last about an hour and are created specifically to fit your club's tastes and busy schedules. If your group is interested, please call the bookstore at (206) 624-6600 and ask for any member of our book club team. We will talk a little bit about what you'd like to do with your book group (are you interested in some classics? Would you like to tackle science fiction?) and set up an appointment. Individual members of the book club are encouraged to call the presenter before the meeting with ideas or subjects they'd like to discuss as well. After the presentation, each member of your book group will be given a 20% discount on their total purchases.

Register Your Book Club at Elliott Bay
This newest feature makes book clubs a little easier on the wallet. Simply fill out and turn in one of the book club registration forms (located at the book club display or at the front counter of the store.) All we need from you is...
...a book club name, (e.g. The Redmond Readers or the Spine Crackers or something much less trite.)
...names and contact information for each person in your group,
...and one person to be the designated liaison to call in your next month's selection.
Of course, your names and information will not be put on any mailing lists or used in any way except to verify your membership in the registered group.
When your club decides on the next book you're going to read, simply email us at bookclub@elliottbaybook.com or call Holly at the bookstore (again, (206) 624-6600,) identify your book club, and give the name of your next selection. Your club's next pick will be on hold at the front counter at a 20% discount. It's just that simple!

Q: I'm still not clear on a particular program. Who can I talk to?
A: Any member of our book club team would be more than happy to field any questions you may have, either over the phone or in person at the bookstore.
Q: I'd like to start/join a book group. Is there any way that you can help?
A: We do provide a book club message board in the store. Anybody looking for a book group is more than welcome to post their needs or wants there.
Q: Are there any places in the store where book club titles are on display if I happen to be browsing for my club's next pick?
A: Elliott Bay has always displayed books that we think would be provocative discussion centerpieces on our book club display. New books are added as soon as we read them and decide they'd be excellent additions to the display. We put a mix of fiction, non-fiction, classics, and new (in paperback, of course) releases.
