WILLIAM KAMKWAMBA with BRYAN MEALER at Seattle Public Central Library |
Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. In The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope (William Morrow), William Kamkwamba, now a young man, tells a story of growing up in rural, impoverished Malawi—and his deciding to try something that seemed impossible to all around him. With co-author Bryan Mealer, he recounts his seemingly whimsical idea to bring wind-driven electricity and water to his village. It is quite a story. "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is the inspiring story of a young man in Africa who used the only resource available to him to build a windmill and elevate the lives and spirits of those in his community. William Kamkwamba's achievements with wind energy shall serve as a model of what one person, with an inspired idea, can do to tackle the crisis we face. His book tells a moving and exciting story." - Al Gore. Free admission. The Seattle Public Central Library is at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Special $5 parking coupons for the Central Library garage are available on a limited basis for those attending the program.
