HAROLD TAW

04/27/2011 7:00 pm
Co-presented with ARTIST TRUST and RICHARD HUGO HOUSE. Harold Taw was first an anthropologist, one who received a Fulbright fellowship to study the presence of AIDS in Thailand. He was then a law student and graduate of Yale Law School, moving into the practice of law, which he did for a number of years. He is now writing—the recipient of a 2009 Artist Trust EDGE program grant and a 2011 Fellow in the Jack Straw Writers Program. He is here tonight in full celebratory mode as he reads from his just-published debut novel, Adventures of the Karaoke King (Amazon Encore). A man in his 30s, reasonably successful such as success tends to be measured, starts having things go the other way on him, such that major changes are in order. His quest—geographical, cultural, psychological—is often amusing (karaoke is involved in a big way), but has insight and serious questions explored as well.
