As part of a visit to Seattle in time for Erika Dayla Massaquoi's Fashiony exhibit of African and Asian-inspired fashion at this year's Bumbershoot Festival, Helen Jennings, editor of award-winning ARISE magazine, engages in an onstage conversation with Laura Cassidy, style editor of Seattle Met Magazine. Helen Jennings is also the author of New African Fashion (Prestel), a brief history of African fashion, beauty, and style, and its influence on the best modern designers, photographers, and models from across the continent and the African diaspora. Profiling popular lines such as Duro Olowu, Jewel by Lisa, Black Coffee, and Eric Raisina, Jennings explores the myriad reasons why African fashion is having its moment in the sun. Joining them onstage tonight is Emeka Alams, an art director, designer, and the creative visionary behind the brand Gold Coast Trading Co.
