ZHONG BIAO with JEN GRAVES - Late Breaking Addition!

12/19/2011 7:00 pm
Just when we thought our year of programs was all wrapped up, along has come this special opportunity to present one of China's foremost contemporary artists. Zhong Biao, who has a sumptuous, bilingual (Chinese and English) monograph on his work available, Zhong Biao (Timezone 8), is an artist whose work has been exhibited widely in China and beyond China. He is known for working with a mix of traditional aesthetic elements and very contemporary ones. And has stirred controversy. On-hand this evening for a conversational dialogue is Jen Graves, art critic and writer at The Stranger. "Zhong Biao has discovered a new possibility of expression. He possesses an abundance of source images, and yet he chooses to return to that expression of a power that moved him early on, this power exists in all representations, without being a representation of itself." - Lu Peng, from the monograph.
