Drawn from research as well as from direct conversations with over forty East African immigrants in Seattle and Portland, this is a rich, developed account of a significant addition to the fabric of Northwest life, with all the complexities, contradictions (sometimes enemies there become friends and neighbors here), and benefits that the move here has entailed.
