SYLVIA WOLF

02/26/2011 4:00 pm
Presented in association with the HENRY ART GALLERY. When she moved to Seattle to take on the directorship of the Henry Art Gallery three years ago, Sylvia Wolf came known as a top curator of photography, including positions at the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Art Institute of Chicago, and as historian/author of numerous well-received studies and monographs. We are delighted to host her here today for an illustrated talk based on her recently published book, The Digital Eye: Photographic Art in the Electronic Age (Prestel). This is both a history and survey of this still-recent and evolving field and how it works as art. "The Digital Eye (or is it the Digital "I"?) focuses on the emergence of what, ultimately, will be a revolution in consciousness, providing a timely roadmap that, like Alice's looking glass, intimates a tantalizing unknown." - Fred Rithcin. In addition to hearing Sylvia Wolf on digital photography, this will also be a good opportunity for those here to check in on current and future doings at the Henry Art Gallery, which includes the recent opening of a major photographic exhibit, Shadows of a Floating World: Pictorial Photography and Seattle Camera Club.
