SHERMAN ALEXIE & G. WILLOW WILSON
Monday, February 11, 2013 - 7:00pm
The Elliott Bay Book Company
1521 Tenth Avenue
Co-presented with the PACIFIC NORTHWEST BOOKSELLERS ASSOCIATION. We are delighted to be able to help celebrate the 2013 Pacific Northwest Bookseller Awards, annually given to writers by a panel of Northwest booksellers. That panel had its work cut out for it: we can't recall a year that's had so much excellent work coming from this corner of the country. The award-winning writers from throughout the region will be honored and feted in bookstores in their home towns: Jonathan Evison and The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving at Eagle Harbor Books on Bainbridge Island; Lucia Perillo for On the Spectrum of Possible Deaths at Orca Books in Olympia; Eowyn Ivey with The Snow Child at Fireside Books in Palmer, Alaska; and Cheryl Strayed for Wild at Broadway Books in Portland. We are thrilled to host the two Seattle writers, both of whom read here for their books this past year. In Sherman Alexie's case it will be a chance to see and hear him at a more 'normal hour,' as we helped launch his "substantial, big-hearted, and potent" (Donna Seaman, Booklist) book of new and selected stories, Blasphemy (Grove), with a midnight gala that featured music, fry bread, and incredible balloon sculptures. With G. Willow Wilson, heretofore known for her excellent graphic novels and her insightful memoir, The Butterfly Mosque, it was an extraordinary novel of assurance and verve, Alif the Unseen (Grove Press). This evening should be funhaving these two writers together under any circumstance should be fun.
