Kerstin Lieff's mother, the late Margarete Dos, was a teenaged witness to Kristallnacht, nursed wounded boy soldiers for the German Red Cross and, after having lived through the aftermath of World War II, tried to escape to Sweden but was instead imprisoned in a Soviet gulag for two years before emigrating to Minnesota. Kerstin Lieff appears today to speak about her book, Letters from Berlin: a Story of War, Survival and the Redeeming Power of Love and Friendship (Lyons Press) which began as a series of conversations between mother and daughter and was recently excerpted in The Huffington Post.
