Co-presented with NEW LEGACY PUGET SOUND and the NORTHWEST AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM. The lasting effects of slavery on the lives of people today are taken up in spirited form in Thomas DeWolf and Sharon Leslie Morgan's book, Gather at the Table: The Healing Journey of a Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade (Beacon). Sharon Leslie Morgan, a descendant of people who were slaves on both sides of her family has undertaken a series of journeys and discussions with Thomas DeWolf, who is descended from the largest slave-owning dynasty that existed. He also wrote Inheriting the Trade and was featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary, Traces of the Trade. "Gather at the Table is an honest exploration into the deep social wounds left by racism, violence, and injustice, as the authors work through their own prejudice in search of reconciliationand ultimately find friendship." - Leymah Gbowee. "A great introduction to a shared past that ought to be better known." - Kirkus Reviews. Free admission. The Northwest African American Museum (www.naamnw.org) is at 2300 South Massachusetts.
