Winner of the 2009 NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) Donald Murray Prize, Jo Scott-Coe taught English for eleven years at her high school alma mater before leaving the public education system. Her memoir of her days in secondary education, Teacher at Point Blank: Confronting Sexuality, Violence, and Secrets in a Suburban School (Aunt Lute Books), addresses issues of teacher attrition, student performance, school violence, and other issues. In 2009, she received both a Pushcart Prize Special Mention for her nonfiction, and a "Notable Essay" listing in Best American Essays. She is currently an assistant professor of English and creative writing at Riverside College in southern California.
