CEDAR SIGO |
Stranger in Town (City Lights Books) is the much-anticipated second poetry collection of San Francisco-based poet Cedar Sigowho is originally from up here. Cedar Sigo was born on the Suquamish Reservation. En route to San Francisco and other work there, he studied with Allen Gisnberg, Anne Waldman, and others at Naropa Institute. He also writes on art, film, and literature, has collaborated with visual artists, recently blogged for SF MOMA's Open Space. In the words of one, his work "reflects queer identity while eschewing clichéd aesthetics ... exuding a mysticism redolent of the SF Renaissance." "A reality made of poetry is all one could ask for, and here it iscreated of skillful, elegant, lyric moments and lines. A door opens to a light, fluent room, where narratives of 'urban mysticism' are pursued. An ear moves from 'professional music' to the sound of melting snow. Poems that breathe with a forthright intimacy." - Joanne Kyger.
