Along with Ivan Doig appearing at University Bookstore on November 12, Tom Robbins at Village Books in Bellingham on November 13, Jonathan Evison at Eagle Harbor Books on November 15, and Stephanie Kallos at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park on November 16, National Book Award-winning Seattle writer Tim Egan will appear here this evening for a new book celebrating independent bookstores in the U.S., My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read, and Shop (Black Dog & Leventhal, edited by Ronald Rice). For this nicely illustrated anthology, Tim Egan has written a gracious piece on Elliott Bay—which hosted his first reading for his first book, The Good Rain, twenty-two years ago. Writers from around the country—John Grisham, Isabel Allende, Pico Iyer, Abraham Verghese, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Terry Tempest Williams, and many more, make for this chorus of vitality and community. Also very much being celebrated tonight is the presence of Tim Egan's own critically-acclaimed, bestselling new book, Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt).
