WASHINGTON STATE BOOK AWARDS Ceremony

Presented by the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. Everyone's invited to attend the 2009 Washington State Book Awards Ceremony to celebrate with winners and finalists in six categories. This year's winners are: All About Lulu (Soft Skull Press) by Jonathan Evison, fiction; S'abadeb (University of Washington Press) edited by Barbara Brotherton, general nonfiction; Dark Water: Flood and Redemption in Florence, the City of Masterpieces (Doubleday) by Robert Clark, history/biography; and A Map of the Night (University of Illinois Press) by David Wagoner, poetry. This year's Scandiuzzi Award winners are: Emperors of the Ice (Farrar, Straus & Giroux) by Richard Farr, writing for young adults; and What to Do About Alice (Scholastic) by Barbara Kerley, illustrations by Edwin Fotheringham, best picture book. A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker, with illustrations by Kady McDonald Denton, received Honorable Mention. Short presentations by the award-winners will be followed by a booksigning and free reception. Free admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Special $5 parking coupons for the Central Library garage are available on a limited basis for those attending.
