KATE DiCAMILLO at Seattle Public Central Library

Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. The Tale of Despereaux, Because of Winn-Dixie, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and Louise: The Story of a Chicken are just some of Kate DiCamillo's many cherished books for children of all ages. We couldn't be more pleased that she'll be joining us today at the Seattle Public Library to read from and discuss her new chapter book, The Magician's Elephant (Candlewick, illustrated by Yoko Tanaka). "Reading like a fable told long ago, with rich language that begs to be read aloud, this is a magical story about hope and love, loss and home, and of questioning the world versus accepting it as it is. Brilliant imagery juxtaposes 'glowering and resentful' gargoyles and snow, stars and the glowing earth, and Tanaka's illustrations bring to life the city and characters from 'the end of the century before last.' A quieter volume than The Tale of Despereaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, this has an equal power to haunt readers long past the final page." - Kirkus Reviews. Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Special $5 parking coupons for the Central Library garage are available on a limited basis for those attending.
