BARBARA EHRENREICH at Seattle Public Central Library

10/21/2009 7:00 pm
Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. Americans are a "positive" people, but the relentless promotion of the positive has a dark side: self-blame in times of misfortune and overlooking the "too good to be true" claims that led in part to the current economic disaster. Barbara Ehrenreich draws from her experiences as a cancer survivor as well as her work as a political analyst, her coverage of the history of women's health, and of her immersion experiences with wage workers, and with the underemployed middle class in her provocative new book, Bright-Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America (Metropolitan). Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is at 1000 Fourth Avenue (between Madison & Spring). Special $5 parking coupons for the Central Library garage are available on a limited basis for those attending.
