JILL LEPORE at Town Hall Seattle

10/22/2010 7:30 pm
Co-presented with the TOWN HALL CENTER FOR CIVIC LIFE. Historian Jill Lepore examines the far right's battle to "take back America" in the context of a centuries-long struggle over the meaning of America's founding. Her book, The Whites of Their Eyes: The Tea Party's Revolution and the Battle Over American History (Princeton University Press), takes on the Tea Party's ahistorical, anti-intellectual, anti-pluralist version of American history, and tells real stories about American history. Jill Lepore is a professor of U.S. history at Harvard and a New Yorker staff writer. "Jill Lepore is a national treasure. There is no other writer so at home both as a trenchant scholar of American history and as an on-the-scene observer of our present-day follies. She etches the connection between past and present with a wisdom, grace, and sparkle that makes this book even hard to put down—if that's possible—than her previous work." - Adam Hochschild. Her previous books include the Pulitzer finalist, New York Burning; and the Bancroft Prize-winning The Name of War. $5 tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. or in advance via www.brownpapertickets.com (1-800-838-3006). Town Hall Seattle is at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca). Preferred seating for Town Hall members.
