Co-presented with the ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION, Western & Central Washington State Chapter. Susan Rava's fourteen years as a caregiver began one day as her father-in-law set out for a solo swim across Lake Michigan. Eventually both of her husband's parents and her own were diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, and the challenges, stresses, and uncertainties of caring for their loved ones (and for each other) is at the center of her book, Swimming Solo: A Daughter's Memoir of Her Parents, His Parents and Alzheimer's Disease (Plateau Books). Swimming Solo is both a memoir and a resource for caregivers, and we're pleased to welcome members of our local Alzheimer's Association (including Western and Central Washington CEO Bob LeRoy) to join the conversation, and to provide an opportunity to find out about resources for caregivers. For more about the Alzheimer's Association, please see www.alzwa.org or call their helpline (a 24 hour/7 day service) at 1-800-272-3900.
