The Man Booker Prize

The Man Booker Prize is United Kingdom's best known literary award and therefore gets worldwide attention. Founded in 1969 by Booker McConnell, a multi-national conglomerate company, the Man Booker Prize is awarded each year for an outstanding full length novel written in English, and published for the first time by a British publisher in order to "reward merit and to raise the stature of an author in the eyes of the public." Recipients must also be citizens of the British Commonwealth, Ireland, India or South Africa. A three-to-five member jury chooses a short list of candidates in October before the winning title is announced in November.
