Caitlin Horrocks with Donna Miscolta
The month of August begins with an appearance by award winning fiction writer Caitlin Horrocks’ debut novel, The Vexations (Little, Brown), an ambitious reimagining of the life of Erik Satie. Set in La Belle Èpoque Paris, The Vexations takes readers into his life and that of his circle of friends (and lovers) which included Claude Debussy and Suzanne Valadon. Satie both inspired and alienated many in the art scene and, eventually tests his staunchest allies, his younger siblings, Louise and Conrad.
“Genius blazes in this gorgeous and breathtakingly assured novel—sometimes center-stage, sometimes in a corner—but there are no satellites: seldom have I read a book about art that refuses so staunchly to treat any life as minor. The Vexations is a rare, engrossing, humane achievement.” —Garth Greenwell.
Caitlin Horrocks is also the author of the story collection, This Is Not Your City and is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize and an O. Henry Prize.
Caitlin Horrocks will appear in conversation with Seattle writer Donna Miscolta, author most recently of Hola and Goodbye: Una Familia in Stories.
